Travel Insurance- a must!
Canceled travel plans? Flat tire? Get sick abroad? Lost luggage?
The past few years have been A LOT, right? Pandemic aside it’s been a wild time to travel. While I have been fortunate to have relatively frustration free experiences- ya girl is not immune to a lost suitcase or delayed flights. Heck, I even found myself with a flat tire on a rental car in a foreign country.
We can find ourselves caught up in the scary side of travel. I promise, it can be chill. Thankfully, travel insurance is an easy way to add peace of mind to your trip. Coming out of c-vid we’re finding this strange place where hotels and airlines are being less forgiving about cancellation policies and refunds- but so much can still happen even if their policies change.
Take this story- I went to Malta in September 2021 smack in the middle of that window when Delta was cooling and Omicron was ramping up. I have a full time job, and small kids. Getting quarantined in abroad was not something I was leaving up to chance. So I purchased travel insurance, and made sure to find a plan that had coverage of hotel costs for quarantine as well as medical coverage. The coolest part of travel insurance, is that it picks up where your U.S. based health insurance drops off. Knowing that if I did test positive, I was going to have financial assistance with hotel and medical needs was such a lift off my shoulders.
While I’m totally down with the awesome benefits that travel credit cards can provide (shout out to Chase Sapphire, AmEx and my trusty Alaska Airlines BOA), they don’t cover it all and certainly not in a time when cancellations happen. Travel insurance is rad, it will help cover expenses during significant flight delays, lost luggage, medical evacuation needs and more!
For a few hundred dollars (or less!) you can travel with peace of mind with travel insurance. Pro tip! Book that insurance within 30 days of your first payment for trip (think, airline booking, hotel or even excursion) - that small detail can make you eligible for “cancel for any reason” insurance.
